Fans of the beloved literary character Peter Pan are in for a treat as the sequel to author JM Barrie's classic tale of the boy who never grew up is all set to be published on October 5.

Great Ormond Street Hospital, commissioned children's writer Geraldine McCaughrean to write the sequel Peter Pan in Scarlet, because part of the copyright, given to them by Barrie, runs out in 2007 - along with the royalties.

Dr Jane Collins, the hospital's chief executive, said that they were extremely happy with the way the sequel had turned out.

"We are delighted the sequel has captured the essence of his timeless creation," the Mirror quoted her, as saying.
