The compensation being paid at present to the victims is "inadequate and unrealistic", he told reporters here after attending a district level review meeting.

Bommai said water resources department had suffered Rs 61 crore loss in the recent rains that ravaged fourteen districts in the state.

PWD Minister C M Udasi said the damage to public property and school buildings in Haveri district has been estimated to be Rs 231 crore.

Standing crop on 1,43,244 hectares has been damaged. Government had released Rs 1385.16 lakh to Haveri district under natural calamity funds of which Rs 832 lakh would be spent for payment of compensation, he said.
