Atal has greeted the people on Rongali Bihu and urged them to elect BJP candidates in the forthcoming polls.
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu festival which begins next week and urged them to elect BJP candidates in the forthcoming parliamentary polls.

"We want to have support in Assam to solve its problem. So please support the BJP candidates in the state," he said while introducing BJP candidates, at a mammoth election rally at the Northeast Frontier Railway Stadium in Maligaon, which is going to polls in the first phase of elections on April 20.
Referring to star BJP candidate Bhupen Hazarika, who is contesting from the prestigious Gauhati parliamentary constituency, the Prime Minister said, "You know him as a poet, singer, composer and director but now I am introducing him as a BJP candidate".
"Please vote for him and bring him to power so that he can solve your problems," he added.
The Prime Minister also said, "I came to know that Bhupenda was invited for tea by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The singing maestro politely refused the invitation saying that he will drink tea only with the BJP".
He said that it was indeed auspicious that the BJP was launching its election campaign in the state with the onset of the Rongali Bihu festivities.
