Mohammad Shahid, better known as Bilal, is still out of reach, but his brothers aren’t. The police on Saturday questioned two brothers of the terror mastermind for clues to his whereabouts and any other information that could help in his arrest.
Hyderabad Police’s special task force took in the brothers — Majeed and Samad — for questioning. They also questioned Raees, an alleged associate of Bilal. Raees is accused of involvement in other terror cases also.
“We have gathered some vital leads and hope to crack the case sooner than later. But due to the sensitive nature of the probe, we would like to reveal the results at a later juncture,” said an officer requesting anonymity. Senior blast investigators were in a long meeting with Commissioner of Police Balwinder Singh.
The police believe Bilal masterminded the two explosions that killed 43 on August 25, and the Mecca Masjid blast.
The officer said all indications point to the involvement of a sleeper module of HuJI and Bilal. Also under the scanner are a few alleged agents of ISI who have been known to be active in Hyderabad, sources said.
Majeed, said an investigator, is close to Bilal. Majeed runs a STD-cum-electronics goods shop at Salim Nagar and stays with his parents in Malakpet.
The police source said: "Majeed keeps in regular touch with Bilal and has been a part of the latter’s circle of friends. We believe he knows something about the plot." Raees, he added, is also known to be in touch with Bilal.
