PV Shaji, hailing from Kerala, was found with deep stab wounds on an approach road near Darbaripur village on July 27.
He was rushed to a private hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The police investigated the mobile phone details of the deceased, but failed to secure any information.
Police officials claimed that two teams were conducting investigations and had questioned a few friends of the deceased in Badarpur, where he had been working for the last 10 years.
The police are also questioning villagers in Darbaripur where Shaji lived with his Italian wife, Sandra.
Sandra also runs an NGO in the same village. The engineer was on his way home when the incident took place.
Shaji had suffered serious stab injuries on the head and stomach.
He was spotted by a passerby on an approach road connecting to the National Highway-8 while his Maruti Ritz car, mobile phone, cash and some other valuables were found missing.
