Poll arrangements complete in Puducherry

All arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful, transparent and fair polls for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the union territory of Puducherry and its enclaves Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam on May 13, District Election Officer cum Returning Officer G Ragesh Chandra said on Saturday.

He told reporters here that 6,000 staff have been drafted for poll duty in addition to 3000 police personnel. Five companies of Central paramilitary personnel were also being drafted for security purposes.

He said 33 of the 49 petitions received by election and police officials, complaining of model code of conduct violations had been rejected, while six were referred to the Election Commission for its perusal. The other petitons were being examined by election authorities in Puducherry.

The total voter strength in Puducherry (after updating the electoral rolls) is 7,62,028. There are 3,95,240 women voters against 3,66,788 men voters in the union territory.
