''Coalition politics have come to stay in the country and leaders in Delhi could never rule highhandedly as in the yesteryears,'' the former rebel leader said, adding, the states would not be affected even if Congress is in the helm of affairs at the Centre.
On his Mizo National Front's (MNF) victory in the lone Lok Sabha poll and Kolasib assembly by-poll, he said that the outcome confirmed the mandate given to his party and the government in the state Assembly elections held last year.
''We defeated all the opposition parties which ganged up against us, because the people wanted good governance and could not be misled by childish moves of the opposition," he said.
Former chief minister and state PCC chief Lal Thanhawla attributed the victory of the Congress to the all out efforts of Sonia Gandhi and active participation of Rahul and Priyanka.
