He was delivering the inaugural address of the three-day All-India Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Technology (COMET-06) at Mechanical Engineering Department of Institute of Technology in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here on Friday. Mechanical Engineering Society organized this conference.
Ramji Rai, who is also a 1968 batch alumni of IT-BHU, said that computers and other latest instruments have bought massive changes in all spheres of life. He further added that one should always practice the basic principles of one’s expertise to get sustainable growth in career.
IT director, Prof SN Upadhyay, presided over the inaugural function and stressed the need of such events as it gave a platform to the young researchers and students of engineering and technical institutions from all over the country to exchange ideas and share experience, particularly those useful for meeting the managerial and technical challenges of the 21st century.
Earlier, head of Mechanical Engineering department and president of Mechanical Engineering Society, Prof SK Sharma, welcomed the guests and introduced Ramji Rai to the audience.
In his address, the dean of faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof JN Sinha, said that different contests arranged during the conference would inculcate managerial skill and competitiveness among the students.
Student convenor of conference, Nitin Srivastava dwelt upon various contests of the conference. Senior faculty member at the Mechanical Engineering department, Prof RS Singh, proposed the vote of thanks.
Later, Chief of Long Term Production Technology at Tata Steel (Jamshedpur), Dr Sanjay Chandra, delivered a guest lecture on ‘Off Line Mathematical Model in Steel Industry’. Three contests, including paper presentation, quiz and software contest, were held today.
Various engineering and technology institutes including, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani), IIT (Kharagpur), Vellore Institute of Technology (Nagpur) and National Institute of Technology (Surat) are participating in the conference.
