Praful Patel's daughter weds Karnataka Congress leader's son

From politicians, businessmen to cricketers.

Prominent personalities from the world of politics, business, sports and entertainment graced the ocassion as Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel's daughter Avni wed Prashant, a Mumbai based corporate lawyer in Mumbai on Saturday.

The reception hosted by Patel at the Royal Western India Turf Club on Saturday evening turned out as a simple yet elegant function.

Among those who attended the reception to bless the newly wed couple included Amitabh Bacchan and Dilip Kumar, cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Imran Khan, business tycoons LN Mittal, Dipak Parekh and Subroto Roy Sahara, Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Haryana, Goa and Andhra Pradesh, several union ministers, Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray and even young Congress leaders such as Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Earlier in the day, Avni, an architect by profession, tied the knot with Prashant, son of Karnataka Congress leader RV Deshpande at a wedding ceremony in a traditional manner at a private hotel in South Mumbai.

NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Union Ministers Murli Deora and Vilas Muttemwar, Leader of Opposition LK Advani, industrialists Mukesh and Anil Ambani attended the wedding.

The reception at the Turf Club, Mahalaxmi, showed Patel's popularity in various walks of life.

The stars from Bollywood as well as the business world turned up in large numbers. The function was also attended by the who's who in Maharashtra politics including more than half of Maharashtra cabinet.

Bollywood giants Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar came together on the dais, hug each other and shared jokes.

For the reception, Avni sported a traditional chaniya choli designed by fashion designer Manish Malhotra while groom Prashant wore a jet black bandh-gala suit.

The dinner served by Mumbai's well known caterers Thackers, Blue Sea and Copper Chimney, was strictly vegetarian with Rajasthani and Gujarati menu.
