Pravin in police custody till April 29

A local court on Sunday remanded Pravin Mahajan to police custody till April 29 on charges of attempt to murder his elder brother and BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan.

Pramod Mahajan has been put on ventilator and is battling for life in a hospital here.

Pravin was produced before the Magistrate presiding over a court in Bhoiwada area of Dadar in Central Mumbai.

Seeking his custody, police sought a 15-day remand to interrogate him further.

Pravin had shot at Mahajan at the BJP leader's flat on the 14th floor of Poorna building in Worli, Central Mumbai on Saturday, injuring him seriously.

He has been booked under the IPC and charged under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 450 (criminal trespass with intention to commit serious crime punishable with life imprisonment).

Besides, he has been charged under Section three of the Arms Act (misuse of licensed weapon).

In a statement to police on Saturday, Pravin said he wanted to kill his elder brother because he had treated him and his family like "dirt".
