Problems aplenty but Nehru-Gandhi family not guilty

However, locals have been acerbic about the role of the state government, which they feel has obstructed all attempts by the Gandhis to carry out development work to deny political advantage. "Rahul Gandhi tried but the unfriendly attitude of the state government is now allowing development to happen," said a villager.

Few months ago, the Centre's proposed rail coach factory in Lalganj ran into trouble with the state government cancelling earlier allotment of land but finally budged following public agitations in Rae Barelli.

On their part, the Gandhis have been pretty vocal about the state's apathy towards their endeavour to start any developmental project.

During her campaigning in Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said she had seen electric poles without electricity in some villages.
