The inquiry will probe the circumstances leading to the violent incident and will identify the culprits besides initiating the strictest possible action against them. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting convened by the V-C at his residence on Sunday evening.
A number of senior AU officials, including former V-C and head of AU Psychology Department Prof Janak Pandey, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Jagdamba Singh, Dean (Arts) Prof KG Srivastava, Dean (Law) Prof HN Tiwari, chairman board of trustees Prof GK Rai, Proctor Prof HN Mishra and CPIO Prof Amrendra Singh participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the AU officials, led by Prof Harshe condemned the incident and said that the AU administration was determined to prevent violence on the campus and the authorities would not be cowed down under any circumstances. The meeting also resolved that the AU authorities, with the co-operation of the district administration, would conduct search raids to find out if any one was carrying firearms or other weapons on the varsity campus.
The AU officials, during the meeting, also expressed concern over the critical condition of Vivek Yadav who has been taken to Lucknow for treatment.
Earlier, AU proctor Prof HN Mishra had stated that they had decided to compile a list of students indulging in violence and other serious incidents and then conduct an inquiry and initiate action against them.
A decision to make the AU science faculty campus a no-vehicle zone from Tuesday was also taken. We have decided to deal systematically with students who create trouble. By going through their past records, we will compile a list of trouble makers repeatedly causing problems and then follow it up with an inquiry and action,” informed Prof Mishra.
He said that from Tuesday, assistant proctors would also start sitting at the Dean (Science) office to deal with any problems by responding immediately to a call for help.
“We are also planning to have single entry and exit points on the campus so that entry of individuals can be controlled and monitored. Entry of weapons will not be allowed on the campus under any circumstance. Moreover, the number of armed guards will also be increased,” he added.
