The murder of PWD engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta allegedly by a ruling BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari on Thursday rocked the Uttar Pradesh state Assembly with the opposition parties demanding a CBI inquiry into the case, forcing adjournment of the entire question hour.
Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar had to adjourn the question hour twice after assurances by him to take up the matter later on were failed to pacify the opposition led by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav pressing for taking up the issue by putting the scheduled procedures on hold.
As the House reassembled, Yadav, Suresh Khanna of BJP, Pramod Tewari of Congress and Kokab Hamid of Rashtriya Lok Dal charged the government for the murder of a senior official which they said had sent shock waves in the country and had brought a bad name to the state.
They claimed that the incident would also affect the industrial climate of the state as the murder was committed in Auraiya, where an important GAIL plant is located.
Yadav slammed the government saying the government had arbitrarily clamped NSA, Gangsters act and goonda act on his partymen and innocent people like school and college students who had come out to protest the murder during a bandh in Auraiya.
