IN A sharp rebuttal to Urban Development Minister Azam Khan’s letter, Minority Welfare and Haj Minister Haji Yaqub Qureshi on Friday assailed Khan for deceiving the Muslim community right from the day of the Babri Masjid movement.
Qureshi in his letter dated April 28 addressed to Khan said that he made tall claims about services to the Muslim community, but the reality is otherwise.
Referring to the controversial Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur, Qureshi said the university could not be established due to the rigid attitude of Khan.
He alleged that Khan was more interested in his interests than to the community. Reiterating the demand of the Meerut people for return of Rs 10 lakh donated for the establishment of the Jauhar University, Qureshi said that Khan has been badly exposed. He also accused Khan of capturing Waqf land in Rampur.
Qureshi pointed out Khan tried to grab waqf property at Rampur in the name of establishing a College, but local people did not support him. Rather than education, the motive behind the establishment of the Jauhar University was politics, he said.
“So far you have not taken any concrete measure for the welfare of the community. Now the community does not expect anything from you. Even the people of Rampur had lots of expectation from you which have been belied”, Qureshi said.
