THE MINISTER for Haj and Minorities Welfare Haji Yaquoob Qureshi has recommended tough action against noted painted MF Husain on charges of desecrating Hindu Gods and Goddesses in his paintings.

The minister had a brief conversation with reporters at Kanpur Central railway station while en-route to Lucknow from Ghazibad by Shatabdi Express.
Replying to a query, he said, “The money for the reward of Rs 51 crore declared on the Danish cartoonist will be collected at the appropriate time.”

“I will beg and request the people to donate generously. I am confident that I will collect more than the requisite required,” stated Qureshi.

He added the statement given by him was not in the capacity as minister but as ‘Ashik-e-Rasool’. The minister also stressed upon the point that by publishing cartoons of Prophet Mohammed, the Danish newspaper had also violated the laws of UN.

“If the PM of Denmark delivers death penalty on the cartoonist then the reward amount will be sent to him,” pointed out Qureshi.

Answering a query, Qureshi said, “Husain also deserves severe punishment. By painting objectionable pictures of Bharat Mata and Hindu God and Goddesses, Husain has hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus of the country.”

Lambasting the BJP, Qureshi said the BJP was only concerned about Hindu votes and did not have any respect for Lord Ram. He also asserted that by issuing the statement he had tried to stir the dead conscience of the BJP.

Replying a question relating to his removal from the State Government after making the controversial statement, Qureshi said, “For the Allah’s cause I can part with thousands of such portfolios.”

The minister also categorically refuted the rumours about his sacking from the Samajwadi Party.

“All such rumors are being spread by my opponents. The SP can never associate itself with communal forces and I have only demanded punishment for a person who has defamed the Prophet,” added Qureshi.
