Raghavendra Rathore prefers staying in the background. That’s what the suave and dapper fashion designer reiterated at the opening of Jodhpur Shop, his flagship store, much after his counterparts had done it.

And being in the background is what he did at the store’s launch with the guests hogging the limelight. “I’ve been watching my friends and learning from them. Some of them opened their stores in Mumbai and saw their fingers burning.

Others opened home stores and had to shut shop soon. I am looking at a balanced projection of high-end fashion as well as home products. There’s a smorgasbord of products one can sell. But that’s not possible,” he said, not perturbed by the ineffective air conditioning. “The place is not meant to get such a high footfall! That’s why the AC’s not being effective,” he said.

While Ramona Vadhera, just one of his really old friends, was present there to “support him”; Malini Ramani stopped by for a quick hi. Tikka Shatrujit Singh, of course, couldn’t stop gushing “how Rathore is the only one in india who can make a bandgala.” Added Rathore,“It’s time to revive high-end fashion and Jodhpur Shop is the perfect business card for us.”
