Rail Mela inaugurated

NORTH EASTERN Railway General Manager SK Vij inaugurated the two-day Rail Mela organised by NE Railway Women Welfare Organisation (NERWWO) at Syed Modi Railway Stadium on Saturday. Over hundred stalls depicted the culture and traditions of the country. Vij released a souvenir on the occasion. President of NE Railway Women Welfare Organisation (NERWWO) Mita Vij, wife of SK Vij, was also present on the occasion along with senior officials of the department from Lucknow, Izzatnagar and Varanasi.

President of NE Railway Women Welfare Organisation (NERWWO) Mita Vij, wife of SK Vij, was also present on the occasion along with senior officials of the department from Lucknow, Izzatnagar and Varanasi.

The NERWWO is a non-government organisation.

The funds raised through Rail Mela 2006 will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and it will be used for extending assistance to physically challenged people. Mita Vij expressed hope that with cooperation of the people of the area, she would attain the objective of Mela.

The venue was decorated for the occasion. Stalls of chikan sarees, dress material, Rajasthani Rangoli, handicraft of Orissa, Bengali sarees and jewellery from Chennai were the main attractions.
