In a bid to attract the youth to his yet-to-be formed party, Sena rebel Raj has told his supporters not to target celebrations on February 14. However, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav’s
supporters have promised to do the opposite.

“We are against the vulgarity that is seen on this day, not against those celebrating Valentine’s Day in good sense,” said Praveen Darekar, a close aide of Raj.

“During his tour of the state, Raj found that he received tremendous response from the youth which is why we do not want to do anything which will adversely affect his image as the leader of the youth,” said another Raj supporter.
Shiv Sena deputy leader Vijay Loke said: “We will follow the stand taken by Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray. We will oppose the celebrations, which are the influence of western culture, this year too.”

Protests, however, are expected to be considerably toned down this year because of Raj’s instructions.

In the past, Shiv Sena activists have ransacked shops selling Valentine gifts, attacked hotels and lounges organising celebrations and harassed students celebrating the day.
