Ramnaresh Sarwan made his debut at a tender age of 20 years in 2000 against Pakistan and impressed the selectors with an unbeaten 84.

Having a bad run of form during the tour to Australia, Sarwan made everybody wonder about his future. But he denied the critics by getting back to his composed best against India in 2001-02.

His footwork is strikingly confident and precise.

Owing to his leadership qualities, Sarwan was awarded the post of vice-captain in December 2002.

Though being a young player his stealthy progress has made him the backbone of the West Indies side.

Holding a key to various Windies' victories, Sarwan will be a player to be watched during the Natwest 2004 series.
