A woman who was raped in a stationary train at a station has been paid a compensation of Rs 50,000 by Railway Minister Lalu Yadav from his official fund.

The minister deeply regretted the incident and said that though the victim could not be compensated for the physical and mental injuries suffered by her, the cash compensation may help her to some extent.

The incident occurred at Hasnabad railway station under Sealdah division of Eastern Railway in August 2004 when a policeman took her to a coach of a stationary train and raped her, according to an official release from the Railway Ministry. When the incident came to the authorities' notice, the constable was immediately suspended and disciplinary action was initiated against him.
