A gang of toughs, acting as recovery agents for a bank, allegedly thrashed the family and neighbours of a Sahibabad-based travel operator after he defaulted on the October instalment of his personal loan.
So brutal was the assault that one of the neighbours had to be admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for four days.
Although one of the toughs dropped his identity card at the spot, the police have not made any arrests in connection with the case, even four days after the incident.
Ram Pratap Singh regrets the day he took a personal loan from the private bank in Delhi. He claims he had paid his instalments till October.
Yet, on October 23, two ‘recovery agents’ landed up at his Lajpat Nagar (Sahibabad) residence. Singh alleges that they first demanded the month’s instalment and then abused his wife.
When neighbours intervened, the two called up reinforcements from a nearby village. Together, the goons attacked whoever came in their way.
“The agents assaulted my family and neighbours with rods and bricks for 10 minutes, and finally left us for dead. They also looted Rs 32,000 from my neighbour,” Singh told Hindustan Times.
Two of Singh’s neighbours, Pawan Chaudhary and Deepak Chaudhary, and his driver Iqbal Khan were badly beaten up.
The police have registered a complaint.
“We have received important information regarding the incident and are taking up the matter seriously,” L. Ravi Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, told Hindustan Times.
