NURSES created a ruckus at the Health Directorate here on Monday. They were protesting against alleged irregularities in the recruitment.

They ransacked the Director, Medical Care office and gheraoed the DG, Medical Health and Family Welfare office. Later, the Health Department officials called police to control the rampaging nurses.

The nurses said that the Allahabad High Court had directed the Health Department to recruit 850 nurses.

The Health Department issued an advertisement for the same and they were called for interview.

But on Saturday when the results were declared to their amazement the name of only 513 nurses figured in the list.

The nurses further said that they had taken three years training in the State Nursing College and also signed bond for 10 years service in the Government hospitals. Still, they were ditched by the Health Department.

Later talks were held between the officials and a delegation of the nurses.

Director, Medical Care Dr MP Bansal told Hindustan Times that recruitment was done according to 2003 rules for the recruitment of the gazetted and non- gazetted employees. He has written to the State Government about the demand of the nurses. “If the government agrees then only fresh appointment list will be issued,” he said.

Meanwhile, office-bearers of the Rajkiya Nurses Sangh said that they would hold talk with the principal secretary, Medical Health and Family Welfare over the issue.
