Till any formal statement by the group or the brothers is issued, the whole affair will keep on drawing passive public and corporate attention, but confusion will prevail.

Will they, or won't they? This pretty much sums up the confusion regarding a vertical split in India's largest private sector conglomerate, the Reliance group. Reportedly caught in an ownership tussle, the Ambani brothers -- Mukesh and younger sibling Anil -- have managed to keep the media, corporate watchers, India Inc and the over two million-strong investor community in a state of confusion. Each passing day brings a fresh twist to the Ambani tale.

The latest is that the Reliance group matriarch and its founder Dhirubhai's widow Kokilaben has been vested with the responsibility of amicably settling the ambitions of the two brothers and the consequent division

of the over Rs 90,000-crore business empire. Till any formal statement by the group or the brothers is issued, the whole affair will keep on drawing passive public and corporate attention, but confusion will prevail.
