Born to K.S. Rao and Smt. Vasundhra Rao on the 13 August 1954, Renuka was brought up in Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

She continued with her education at Karnataka University, Bangalore and qualified with a Post Graduate in Industrial Psychology. Later on she chose to specialize as a Political and Social worker. She married Shri S. Chowdhury on the 7 October 1973 with whom she has two daughters.

Throughout her career Renuka has associated herself with various social and cultural organizations, working in the field of child development and welfare. She represents the Indian National Congress (INC) from Khamman (Andhra Pradesh) Constituency.

Renuka is known for her flare of writing and has expanded this to write articles for many national newspapers and also short stories for children. She has a fine eye for Art and is renowned for her collection. As well as this she spends a lot of time reading, gardening and listening to music. Having traveled extensively, Renuka rates Canada, US and Switzerland amongst some of her favorite destinations.
