Although most of the promises made by the candidates remain unfulfilled after the last election, Kanpurites are hopeful that things would improve after the election of new corporators.

Deepti Rajani, a student and a resident of Kakadeo, said, “we expect our new corporator to at least construct the roads in our area, which have not been taken care of for the last seven years.”

Another resident Rahul Mishra of Barra and an employee in a private firm hoped that the new corporator would construct some public urinals which was badly needed in area. He also expects that the new corporator would take care of public parks and ensure proper drainage system in the area.

Abhishek Banerjee, a school teacher and a resident of Shyam Nagar, said, “if promises made last time still remain unfulfilled who can give the guarantee that this time they will be fulfilled. Residents of Shyam Nagar area have been constantly complaining against dilapidated roads, which create lots of problem for the people during the monsoon, and the increasing thefts in the area but the authorities concerned remain unmoved”.

RC Rajani, a businessman and a resident of P Road, became irritated when asked about what he expected from his new corporator. He said, “we have power cut for 2-3 days which completely ruins our business and on top of that these vendors on the roadside cover most of the roads creating parking problems for us. The cops are good for nothing as they simply sit in the shade and watch the whole scene indifferently.”

Fauzia Shanam, a housewife and a resident of Latouche Road said, “electricity and bad roads are major problems for the whole city but along with that we really wish that proper water facility is provided in our area. People are facing a lot of problems because the hand pumps are not working.

Sanjeev Kapoor, a resident of Tilak Nagar, too wished that, “there should be parks and playgrounds for the children.”

A resident of Kidwai Nagar Manish Tewari said that at least proper arrangements should be made for streetlights in his area.
