The first time we attempted to visit Between Breads — a small burger and sandwich joint located in Bandra (W) — we had to return with an empty stomach. The city’s eateries had gone on a strike against a new service tax and this tiny place too had decided to lend support. When we tweeted about the same, their response was prompt and warm. They asked us to return soon to try out their fare and we did.
The vibrant colours and unique design of the interiors immediately caught our attention. The vibe set this place apart from other such joints in the area that offer similar food and take themselves too seriously, focusing on muted tones. The ambience here exuded warmth and made good use of reds and yellows.
It felt like a happy place, one where we could hang out for hours with our friends.
In lieu of the scorching May heat, we decided to first quench our thirst by opting for the Arnold Palmer Ice Tea (Rs 69),
skipping the usual flavours. This turned out to be a good choice, because unlike other cafés that tend to dilute the taste by throwing in too much ice, the balance here was just right. We also wanted to try their Oreo Milkshake, but we were asked to go for their Mango Milkshake (Rs 119) instead. It is their specialty and it is mango season, after all. The shake was a bit heavy and filled with dry fruits — almost a meal in itself.
Already mildly impressed, we placed our order for one Jalapeno Pepper burger (Rs 169), one Chicken Cheese Burger (Rs 189) and one Pesto Veg Sandwich (Rs 199), which they again claimed was their highlight. With its cheesy jalapeno poppers, the veg burger was a delight and one that we’d highly recommend to any foodie. Even the carnivores would enjoy this one. The chicken burger was good too, but coming on the heels of the vegetarian one, it felt a bit pale in comparison.
The Pesto Veg Sandwich, which was served in a garlic-rubbed multi-grain baguette, was awesome. The perfect mix of veggies and sauces made each bite dig-in worthy. We ended the meal with French Fries BB Style (Rs 99), which were essentially fries topped with grilled onions, melted cheese and Thousand Island dressing — they were just delicious.
Weight watchers, don’t say you weren’t warned. Better skip it if you’re worried because once you are in, the food is simply too tough to resist.
