The decision by China to build a concrete road up to the base of Mount Everest has been rightly opposed by environmentalists. As it is, China tops the world in emitting carbon dioxide. At this stage, the construction of the road, notwithstanding, the commercial benefits, will definitely disturb the ecological balance.
