Dacoits also fired a dozen round and hurled bombs to create terror among the villagers and fled the spot threatening villagers with dire consequences if they informed the police. Probably because of this, the police could reach the site after three hours of the incident.
According to reports, robbers following rumours of two pitches full of gold coins hidden in the house of a bicycle dealer, attacked his house and shot the dealer dead at Gauri Bhagvanpur village under Chaubeypur police circle.
According to eyewitnesses, at around midnight on Saturday, more than dozen-masked miscreants, using ladder, reached on the roof of bicycle dealer Ramavtar’s house. Ramavtar and his wife Tarawati were fast asleep when dacoits reached on the roof.
While the robbers were asking for the pitches full of gold from the couple, Ramavtar, out of fear, tried to flee from the house. However, two dacoits on patrol outside shot Ramavtar dead on the spot.
After killing Ramavtar miscreants beat up other family members, while asking them about the gold coins. However, when family members failed to give any information, miscreants dug the entire floor of the house but to no avail.
After two hours of rampage, dacoits left the village threatening inhabitants of dire consequences if they informed the police about the incident. It was only three hours after the robbers fled that few villagers mustered courage and informed the police. On receiving the information, SP (rural) Ratan Kumar Srivastava, CO RP Arun and SO, VK Mishra rushed to the site of incident and started combing operation in the area.
The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital where all of them are said to be out of danger. The police have detained few villagers on the ground of suspicion.
