Federer is currently one of the most prominent tennis players in the circuit. In a dominant display of his talents he dropped just one set in 2003 to become the first Swiss man to win a Grand Slam singles title. After a year he successfully defended his title by beating the US Open champion, Andy Roddick.
While men's tennis has become increasingly one-dimensional, Federer stands out with his versatility. He is the best player in the world at present.
At the age of 14 he started playing tennis and went on to become the world number one in 1998 when he won the Junior Wimbledon Open and reached the finals of the US Open at the Junior level.
Federer has no coach at the moment after he ended things with Peter Lundgren in December 2003. He is currently working on the road with trainer Pavel Kovac. But Athens will be a testing ground for this young champion and it is to be seen if he can prove his calibre once again.
