Rs 1,794-crore projects sent for Centre?s nod

AS MANY as 10 significant projects of four major cities of the State worth Rs 1,794 crore have been forwarded to the Centre for its clearance under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The projects include the Bhopal?s Narmada Water Supply Scheme and the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).

AS MANY as 10 significant projects of four major cities of the State worth Rs 1,794 crore have been forwarded to the Centre for its clearance under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The projects include the Bhopal’s Narmada Water Supply Scheme and the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).

According to official information, the proposals relate to Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain, which are included in the JNNURM. After the approval of proposals, the State will get Rs 861.65 crore as the Centre’s share.

Under the JNNURM, a proposal of Rs 240.22 crore has been forwarded related to the Narmada Water Supply Scheme for drinking water arrangement in Bhopal. Similarly, Rs 498.63 crore joint proposal for the implementation of BRTS respectively in Bhopal and Indore have also been sent to the Centre.

Besides, two different proposals of Rs 43.96 crore and 46.96 crore respectively for improvement of slum areas and drainage system in Jabalpur have also been forwarded. An additional proposal worth Rs 49.25 crore for road development in Jabalpur city is also under the consideration of the Union Government.

Besides, Ujjain’s three important development projects have been sent to the Centre. The projects included Rs 13 crore for development of slum areas, Rs 10.11 crore for construction of an over-bridge and Rs 5.91 crore for drainage system. Apart from it, Rs 14.20 crore proposals relate to the implementation of model projects under UN Habitat in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain and Jabalpur were also forwarded.
