Rs 2 lakh taken from Jogeshwari college safe

Thieves broke into the principal’s office at Ismail Yusuf College in Jogeshwari (East) and stole Rs 2 lakh from the safe on Monday night.
The money was to be paid as teachers’ salaries. Part of it was students’ admission fees.
College authorities said this was the third theft on the premises in six months.
The previous cases have not yet been solved.
The college shut on Monday at 5.30 pm. On Tuesday morning, when the college registrar and peon went to the principal’s office, the safe was open and the cash missing.
“The money was delivered by government officials on Monday. It was to be paid as salaries to teachers and staff members,” said Registrar V.P. Navade. “We have not yet arrived at an exact estimate of the money that was in the safe.”
The college authorities and the police suspect it was an insider job. The 60-acre campus has 10 watchmen guarding the premises at all times.
“We have registered a case of housebreaking. At this point, we cannot estimate the amount looted,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Prasad Prasanna.
