A MOB of Lucknow University (LU) students created a ruckus at the IT College crossing and outside Vice-Chancellor residence protesting arrest of two student leaders on Thursday evening. The cops were still unable to pacify the agitated mob as irate students were demanding release of the leaders or intensify the stir. The protest was going on outside V-C’s residence till the last reports came in.
CO Mahanagar Habibul Hasan said that the police had rushed the scene before the students could engage in violence. He said both the student leaders were arrested for assaulting the LU teacher. The cops were trying to pacify the students.
The agitation, however, had caused traffic chaos at the IT crossing and it was yet to be normalised till late in the night.
It all began in the evening when the Mahanagar police arrested two student leaders Shiv Bhushan Singh and Saket Singh Sonu near IT Crossing. Both these leaders were picked in connection to alleged assault of a teacher Nand Lal Bharati by these two leaders on Wednesday when Bharati refused to give them important questions for the ongoing examination.
No sooner their band of associates in LU hostels came to know about the matter they converged there and started ruckus. They started pelting stones at the vehicles and tried to engage in vandalism at the shops. However, fearing violence shutters came down immediately.
As the students were engaged in creating a ruckus, the officials rushed there accompanied by PAC personnel. Applying a mild force, they got the irate mob dispersed from the scene. The students, however, gathered outside the V-C residence. They were demanding varsity administration to get their leaders released or also get a senior teacher arrested whose name figured in the assault of the teacher.
It is worth mentioning here that a name of a senior teacher has figured in the incident. According to sources, a senior teacher of the Public administration has allegedly instigated the student leaders to attack Bharati. Agitated students are demanding that if Shiv Bhushan and Saket are culprits than the teacher who instigated them should not be spared as well.
Meanwhile, all examination of Public Administration department scheduled for Thursday and Friday has been called off to mark protest against the attack on teacher of the department. The fresh dates for the said examination have been announced and students are directed to see the department notice board.
Earlier, in the day LUTA held an emergent meeting in which they demanded for the immediate arrest of the student leaders. They criticised assulat on one of their colleague and urged the LU officials to provide security to Bharati.
