SAD retains Nurmahal assembly seat, defeats Congress by 15,053 votes
Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday retained Nurmahal assembly seat, as its candidate Rajwinder Kaur Bhullar defeated her rival and Congress Nominee Gurbinder Singh Atwal by 15,053 votes in the by-election.

SAD candidate polled 50,983 votes and Congress' nominee got 35,930 votes out of total counted votes 92,120, officials said.
The assembly seat fell vacant due to death of SAD MLA Gurdeep Singh Bhullar in December last and the party fielded his widow Rajwinder Kaur Bhullar.
Two other candidates Harbans Singh Uppal of CPI(M) got 3356 votes and CPI(ML) candidate Hans Raj Pabwan could get 1851 votes only.
Barring in one round, SAD candidate took lead in all the 11 rounds of counting.
