The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the collector of Betul, Rajesh Prasad Misra, who assured the devotees that he would forward the matter to senior officials.

One of the devotees Varun Rajput, a resident of Betul town, said that the government should immediately intervene in the matter and take action.

He said that the administration should stop the removal of the idol as it would hurt religious sentiments of hundreds of Sai Baba followers.

The controversy over the proposed removal of the Sai Baba idol arose when a businessman, Sam Verma, who has built the temple, decided to close down a portion of the temple which housed Sai Baba’s idol.

Ever since, there has been anger among Sai devotees in the town and in other places in the State also, against the decision.
