Sangakkara ensures Lankan triumph

The batsman smashed a brilliant century to script Sri Lanka's win in the third ODI against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 78 runs in the third one-dayer to win theseries 2-1 on Saturday.

Chasing the target of 310, Bangladesh could only score 231/9 in 50 overs. Mohammad Ashraful top scored with 64.

Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara smashed a brilliant century to power Sri Lanka to 309 for seven.

Sangakkara hit eleven boundaries for his 109 off 125 balls before being bowled by spinner Mohammad Rafique in the series deciding match.

Sangakkara and captain Mahela Jayawardene (51) steered Sri Lanka out of early trouble when it lost openers Upul Tharanga for a duck and Sanath Jayasuruya for four in the ninth over.

Hard-hitting Kaushal Lokuarachchi smashed 69 off 57 balls, while lower order batsman Farveez Maharoof remained unbeaten on 27 off just nine balls. Maharoof struck three sixes.

Rafique grabbed three wickets, while medium-pacers Mashrafee bin Mortaza and Syed Rasel took two wickets apiece.

Mortaza jolted Sri Lanka in the first over of the innings by dismissing Tharanga for a duck with Sri Lanka yet to score. Jayasuriya (4) soon departed perishing to Mortaza, leaving Sri Lanka at 17 for two wickets.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sangakkara and captain Jayawardene steadied the innings with 75-run third wicket stand.

Jayawardene made 51 off 56 before being caught and bold by Rafique.
