LOHRI was celebrated at SDPS Women?s College in a traditional manner recently. The girls gathered around a bonfire and danced to the tunes of Punjabi songs. They also sang traditional Lohri songs. They offered groundnuts, sesame seeds, ?revari? and many other edible items to fire to burn away all the evils.

The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. Nikita Jain, Aryika Maheshwari and Randeep Arora won the best dance prizes. The best dress prize was shared by Pooja Agrawal and Sonal Joshi.
JJ Public School: MAKAR SANKRANTI was celebrated at J J Public School yesterday. School principal Swapna Mukherjee informed students about the significance of the festival celebrated in different Indian states. She said that the temperature gradually rises after this festival. The students flew kites and played gilli-danda to mark the festival. Sweets made of sesame and jaggery were distributed to the students.
ILVA Commerce and Science College: MAKAR SANKRANTI and Lohri were celebrated at ILVA Commerce and Science College recently. Dr Jayantilal Bhandari was the chief guest of the programme. The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and garlanding of a portrait of Goddess Saraswati. Indore Loha Vyapari Parmarthik Trust president Devendra Bansal welcomed the chief guest.
Dr Jayantilal Bhandari said that such festivals provide students with an opportunity to come closer to Indian culture. Trust chairman Parasmal Vohra, College principal Prof H K Jain and College chairman Prakash Jain appreciated the cultural programmes presented by students.
Students flew kites in the afternoon. In the evening students danced around bonfire. Prof Pragati Jain conducted the programme while Sabana Sajit proposed the vote of thanks.
