The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a PIL challenging the allotment of land to Tata Motors for its car project at Singur in West Bengal.

When the petition was mentioned before a Bench comprising Justice B N Agarwal and Justice P P Naolekar, it directed the petitioner to approach the Calcutta High Court.

The petition filed by Joydeep Mukherjee of All India Legal Aid Forum contended the West Bengal Government did not follow proper procedure for transfer of land to Tata Motors.

The Bench also refused to grant interim stay on the land allotment and to prohibit any kind of construction.

Tata Motors plans to set up a manufacturing facility for its Rs one lakh small car.
