Schemes to help improve water supply

With the onset of summer season, shortage of portable water affects hundreds of people in Dhar Block of this district.

The residents in the area start feeling the pinch with drinking water. The problem becomes more acute as wells and ponds in the area also go dry and the water level goes down.

NABARD, which has under it eight schemes including Jugial, Hara, Doong, Lehroon, Dunera phase-II Tarhiti and Shahpur Kandi water supply schemes, sanctioned the projects, are likely to be completed by the end of June at a cost of Rs 5.85 crore.

Superintending Engineer, Public Health G S Ghai said here that 90 per cent of the Schemes under NABARD-I have been completed.

He said that Rs five crore has been spent and drinking water augmented in 19 villages. These villages included Jugial, Rajpura, Sandoi, Kanwal, Barkula, Harura, Hara, Narainpur, Doonga, Aawa, Bia, Chowara, Lehroon, Bakhatpur, Dunera, Lanjera, Ghar, Tarheti and Shahpur Kandi, he said.

Ghai said that under NABARD-IV 19 schemes covering 31 villages of the area would be covered to augment drinking water. A total of Rs 14 crore will be spent on these schemes, he said. The Dhar sub-division has a total of 74 villages.
Ghai admitted that till these schemes are completed shortage of drinking water will continue. The schemes will be completed by March 2004, he said, adding the villages which will be covered under the schemes included Galgat, Bhanguri, Bahmlada, Chandeela Chakkar, Hara, Narainpur, Balwar, Jandwal, Chhatwal, Tilhasas , sarar Bungal, Phangtoli, Baroi Dadwan, Babbar, Sanana, Dorang, Palwan, thariyar Mirzapur, Pangoli and Kiary.
