What began as an altercation over a scratch on a car ended with the death of the 24-year-old son of an Uttar Pradesh politician.
Sachin Chaudhary, son of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee member Veer Singh Chaudhary, was allegedly shot dead by a former Congress Municipal Councillor in Nehru Nagar III area of Ghaziabad on Monday night.
Sheel Goswami allegedly shot Sachin dead with his double-barrel gun at his residence when Sachin reached there to avenge an insult that happened the same evening, police said.
On Monday evening, a Wagon-R car belonging to Sachin’s relatives was hit by a tractor-trolley driven by Goswami's driver in Rakesh Marg area. The accident resulted in a scratch on the car.
“Sachin Chaudhary reportedly slapped the driver. The driver reported the matter to Goswami’s son Udit who went to Chaudhary’s residence and misbehaved with the family,” said Rajesh Dwivedi, Station Officer of Sihani Gate.
Sachin reached Goswami’s house later at night with a group of men. There was a scuffle during which Goswami allegedly shot Sachin. Sachin was hit twice, once in the chest and once in the head, and died on the spot, police said.
Later, Dwivedi arrested Sheel Goswami from his house. Late Monday night, the Sachin’s family members and supporters created a ruckus at Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad after which the SSP deployed additional police forces in the area.
“We have even deployed PAC in Nehru Nagar area to rule out any counter-attack by the two groups on each other,” SP (City) Anant Dev told HT.
Both families were not available for comment.
