Runaway couples who face threat to their lives from their relatives are kept under police protection in a government-run shelter on the SCERT campus.

The security is too intrusive that the couples find it hard to spend time together.

At present, there are four couples at the shelter. They were lodged here after the district court had ordered the cops to give them shelter.

A couple, who came here on January 13, said they were not very happy with the set-up.

"We are protected here and that's not enough for us. We want better facilities. We will leave this place once we get a job," said Virender.

"Starting a new life is a difficult task. I miss my parents," said a woman who married the person she loved against the wishes of her parents.

An inmate said, "There is no honeymoon here. I have to share a room with a policeman while my wife shares room with other women inmates. The place is unhygienic. We are staying here as we have no other option."

Couples staying at the hostel are not happy with the facilities they are getting here.
