Seduction for supper
Out for grabs now is supper theatre at Nasha, the two-month-old lounge at Gurgaon.
Novelty is the outcome of the mushrooming of promotion nights at restaurants, bars and lounges in the city. Out for grabs now is supper theatre at Nasha, the two-month-old lounge at Gurgaon. With a series of ‘Showbiz Nights’ scheduled for the coming months, the lounge saw a heady start this Thursday with Seduction, a ‘delicious’ short play.
The owner duo of brothers Sachin and Sammir S Gogia is hoping to make this a regular feature. “We are trying to revive theatre along with other floor activities like a Moulin Rouge night. Supper theatre is great for people who can’t otherwise take time out and make it for a production,” said Tanvey Gogia, Sammir’s wife who juggles her career as a TV host with playing lounge manager.
The trend of supper theatre — food and drinks in a cosy ambience along with a dose of theatre for the uninitiated — was at its peak in the 90s. Are these signs of a revival? Vivek Mansukhani, head of Scene Stealers one of Delhi’s English theatre societies and the director of Seduction offers an answer. “Any place is good for theatre. The idea is to initiate people into the medium.”

What came as encouragement to the cast was the response from the audience. Said Samantha Kochhar, make-up artist, “I really enjoyed it. The good part was that there was good theatre with good food.” Kochhar was one of the few famous faces present at the do. “We sent out invitations to all people we thought would be interested and we are completely sold out today. We didn’t want to reduce this to a page three do,” said Tanvey.
