In a unique sightseeing and adventure trip of India, tourists from 21 countries have set off from Mattancherry in Kerala to Sikkim in autorickshaws.
Rickshaw Run, which was flagged off on March 29, has 70 autorickshaws painted in different hues covering the Kochi-Sikkim route in two weeks. The teams have the liberty to choose their own routes, said Mathew Dickens, director of operations, Adventure South Asia, the organisers of the event.
The participants also include a woman who is travelling alone in her autorickshaw, and an NRI team. Many of the participants, who are seeing the three wheeler autorickshaw for the first time, came a week before the flag off to learn the nuances of riding the vehicle from the local autorickshaw drivers. The vehicles have been hired locally.
