As part of the Hindi Divas celebrations, Mahila Mahavidyalaya of Banaras Hindu University organised a seminar on ‘Meera Bai and Women’s Liberation Movement in Contemporary Context’ today.
Noted literary critic and former Head of Hindi Department in BHU, Prof Chauthi Ram Yadav was the chief guest of the seminar and termed Meera Bai as an icon of women liberation in the society.
Prof Yadav added that Meera Bai broke all the boundaries and gave a new dimension to women liberation. He analyzed the contribution of Meera Bai towards women empowerment in the society as a whole.
BHU rector Prof Srikant Lele presided over the function and said that Meera Bai was a symbol of women’s empowerment in our society. He said that it was Meera Bai, who stood firm in the male-dominated society and fought against all odds.
MMV principal Prof Sushila Singh welcomed the guests and established the theme of the seminar. Dr Layleena Bhatt conducted the programme whereas Prof Kumud Prabha proposed a formal vote of thanks. Students of MMV also recited some extracts of Meera Bai’s poem on the occasion.
The Rajbhasha Department of DLW kicked off a weeklong programme here this afternoon. A seminar was organised today. A function was also organised at Nagari Pracharini Sabha to mark the Hindi Divas. Regional Office of State Bank of India organised a function in Kachehri area today.
