In 1975 Prof Ramamurthi became the 34th president of the Association of Surgeons of India, the pioneer body of surgeons in the country established in 1938. He was given Padmashree and Padmbhushan for his services to the medical field. He died in 2003.

The Office Memorandum issued on January 4 has been sent to all the 27 members.

The director of the Institute of Technology (Kanpur) is also a member of the Institute Body. But, SGPGIMS believes Dr KA Padmnabhan is still holding the post of director. However, Prof Sanjay G Dhande took over as director IIT-K four years ago after Dr Padmnabhan left for Germany on another assignment.
