Shanties removed from prime land

THE DISTRICT administration and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) today freed open government land adjoining Stud Farm, also known as Jail Bagh, from unauthorised shanties that came up overnight on the land. Realising the value of the land, the jhuggi mafia, wanted to grab and construct hundreds of shanties on this land.

THE DISTRICT administration and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) today freed open government land adjoining Stud Farm, also known as Jail Bagh, from unauthorised shanties that came up overnight on the land. Realising the value of the land, the jhuggi mafia, wanted to grab and construct hundreds of shanties on this land.

However, the timely action of district administration foiled the jhuggi mafia’s design to grab the government land by constructing a cluster of shanties.

In less than last two days, between shanties already came up and land grabbers marked areas to construct hundreds of shanties on this land.

According to BMC officials, some 50 shanties were removed today. Upon learning that encroachers were about to construct shanties inside the campus of Stud Farm, spread on 60-acre land at Arera Hills, the district administration officials and the BMC demolition squad swung in action.

District Collector Sanjay Kumar Shukla said the encroachers had marked the areas to construct shanties. Shukla said these plots were marked overnight.
