Thousands of devotees of Indore thronged the temple premises to watch Kumbhabhishekam performed once in 12 years. Pandits who had come from Mumbai and Tamil Nadu chanted the Vedas and it was a religious treat for the devotees.

The programme started on January 31 under the supervision of Ganapathy Subramanya Shastrigal who is an expert in performing Kumbhabhishekam and Chandi Homam. Here the Homam was performed in specially built ‘Yagyashala’.

Pooja was performed four times and on the final day ‘Poornahuti’ was performed followed by the Kumbhabhishekam. The chanting of Mantras and Vedas was for the betterment of not only the people of Indore but for the whole State.

Every evening the devotees thronged the temple premises to have ‘darshan’ of Lord Karthekeya. A total of 14 pandits, 10 from Mumbai and four from Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu had come to perform Kumbhabhishekam.

The SICA Trust on the occasion added a few more deities like Hayagriva who is holding all the four Vedas in his fold and is guru of Saraswati. The chanting of Hayagriva shloka is good for the students, which helps them in memory power and in their education.

Idols of Guruvayur (Lord Vishnu) Swamy Ayyappa, Lord Venkateshwara and Durga were also installed on the occasion. All the idols were brought from Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu) and were carved by Sapathy Vayapuri.

Shri Parmananda Bharati from Bangalore, Bramhachari Keshav Chaitanya of Chinmayananda Ashram Indore, Aishwaryananda of Arsh Vidya Peetam (Dayananda Saraswati) and Gayathri Swamigal from Chennai were present on the occasion.

All the pandits who had come to perform Kumbhabhishekam including Rajamani Vadhyar Pandit of Murugan Temple were honoured on the occasion. Later a ‘maha mangalarathi’ ‘bandara’ (Maha Prasadam) was arranged for the devotees.

Trust Committee secretary V S Mani conducted the programme while Committee convenor proposed the vote of thanks.
