A Malaysian Sikh, Daljit Singh Dalliwal, who has been sworn in as a Senator, has said that the minority Sikh community is not neglected in this multi-ethnic, multi-religious country.
"The Sikhs have been waiting for this moment. This is an honour for the Sikh community in particular and the Indians in general," Daljit, member of the Malaysian Indian Congress, a component of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional party, said.
The 48-year-old Daljit, took the oath of office on Wednesday before Abdul Hamid Pawanteh, President, Dewan Negara (upper house of the Parliament of Malaysia).
Daljit, who also holds the office of President of Malaysian Punjabi Business Chamber, has joined MIC in 1989 and since has held several official post.
He did his MBA from the University of New England, US.
