Sikkim to host 21st N East sports fest in Feb 2007

Beginning on February 24, the four-day festival would be held in different venues in and around Gangtok.

Sikkim would host the 21st North East Sports Festival in February next year. The state is holding the prestigious multi-disciplinary event after a gap of ten years, Joint Director, department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Karma Yougyal said.

Beginning on February 24, the four-day festival would be held in different venues in and around Gangtok.

While athletics events will be held at the Rangpo cricket ground other games including badminton, boxing, football, karate, tae-kwon-do, table tennis and volleyball will be held at different school grounds and the paljor stadium here.

An ambitious training and coaching schedule to prepare the state teams for the event has been worked out, Yougyal said adding that this time cash incentives will be given not only to the medal winners but to their coaches as well.
