Singer Jaspinder quits, AAP fields anti-nuclear activist Udayakumar

Singer Jaspinder Narula quit the party on Tuesday. Others to have quit the party recently include advocate Ashok Agarwal and Savita Bhatti, the wife of late satirist Jaspal Bhatti.

After the Aam Aadmi Party named tribal activist Soni Sori, who was arrested on charges of acting as Maoist’s conduit and recently released on bail by the supreme court, the party has given a ticket to another activist who faces a barrage of FIRs in Tamil Nadu.

Anti-nuclear activist SP Udayakumar, who has been spearheading a movement to close the nuclear power plant site in Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu, will contest from the Kanyakumari constituency. Over a 100 cases have been filed against Udayakumar. His name figured in AAP’s seventh list which named 26 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. The total number of candidates announced so far is 268.

Dr Narendra Gupta who runs an NGO on tribal welfare will be party candidate from Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh.

A former IAS officer Lal Manzuala has been named from the Aizawl seat in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, sources in the party say that the AAP candidate from Moradabad, Khaled Parvez, who has been charged with load default, will be asked to give up his ticket.
