He also criticised the Mulayam-led State government for its move to bring the Hindu religious places takeover bill.

Singhal was here to attend a meeting of intellectual and office-bearers of various Hindu organisations.

The meeting was convened by the chairman of Ram Janamabhoomi Andolan and head priest of Gorakhnath temple Mahant Avaidyanath. The end of religious character of Nepal and the religious places takeover bill were the main issues of discussion held at Gorakhnath temple here on Wednesday.

According to sources, Singhal upon all the right wing organisations to oppose the proposed religious bill.

He expressed satisfaction that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had issued a stay order against the implementation of the similar act in that State.

Singhal said that the UP government also planned to constitute a monitoring board and the Hindu organisations would not tolerate it. He said that on the pretext of forming a monitoring board, the government was planning to tighten its noose around the mutts and temples.

The Religious Act existed till 1992 but the Kalyan Singh-led government had revoked the Act. Later in 1993, Mulayam Singh Yadav government revived it and recently, Minister for Religious Works Dr Ashok Vajpayee had said that the Act would be implemented.

The religious leaders and office bearers of Hindu organisations said that the demolition of religious character of Nepal resulted from the pressure mounted by the Communist Parties and Maoist organisations. Hitting hard at the UPA government BJP MP Adityanath said that government was making policies in the interest of multinational companies and under pressure of western companies.
